Buck-Out Starts this Thursday Night (March 4)

Just wanted to send out a reminder about the weekly Rafter J Buck-Outs which start tomorrow night (Thursday night) at 7 p.m. at the church. The cost is $10 a ride and the buck-outs are open to any age, however those under 18 years of age need to have their legal guardian come along to sign a waiver and bring their birth certificate.

Buck-Out Night Change

Moses J Brings Plenty will be returning to Rafter J on Sunday, March 28, 2010.
Be Sure to mark your calendars for his return. According to my blog visitation statistics, he is one of the most popular guests that have shared their ministry at our church. This is the 3rd year that he has been to Rafter J.

If you live in the DFW or Northeast Texas Area and have not been to Rafter J, you may find us in Terrell, Texas, just south of I-20 off of SH 148 on CR 305. If you are coming from the DFW area take either I-30 and Highway 80 East to SH 148, south of Terrell, or I-20 direct to SH 148. When you go under I-20, watch for the the next county road (305) and make a left. You will see a cement plant at your turn. Drive a little further down that road and you will see Rafter J on your right.

The last day to order Angel Food for December is Sunday, December 6. Angel Food pick-up will be Saturday, Saturday, December 19, at 9:00 a.m. at the church.

Our youth meet every Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. Children's Church is also at 10:30. We have another bible study covering the book of Romans that meets every Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at the church. And our Men's fellowship meets every Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. at the church.

We have a program here at Rafter J called “the Fourth Quarter”. This is a sports orientated learning session open to everyone and it meets every Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, September 19, we are having an Old Fashioned Open Horse show here at Rafter J. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the show starts at 10 a.m. Show bill includes halter and pleasure and we’ll finish up with fun events like poles and barrels. Come join use for a day of fun!

On Friday, September 25, we’ll have a practice sorting here at Rafter J beginning at 7 p.m. The cost is $25 per rider, all you can ride.

And on Saturday, September 26, our band Kickin’ Up Dust will be performing in a Battle of the Bands at the Terrell Performing Arts Center in a benefit for Healing Hearts Ministry. All had a great day this past Saturday at the Rafter J Cowboy Church Cowboy Trade day, held to raise funds for sanctuary. We had an many different vendors selling everything cowboy. There was great music provided by two cowboy church

bands, pony rides and a silent auction.The Event closed with an exciting live auction with John Clayton as auctioneer. Photos from this event may be seen in this Gallery. Event organizer Whistler Higgins has said that this first Cowboy Trade Day was a great success with vendors reporting that they want to be notified before the next. Whistler says to look for another Trade Day event in the Fall.

"Greg and his wife, Diane, moved to Nashville over 15 years ago to pursue a career in the Country Music Business. Just as Greg began having some real success, with a song recorded by John Michael Montgomery, and a record deal in sight with Henry Paul of Black Hawk as his producer, the McDougal's gave birth to their first baby boy, Jeffrey.

Jeffrey was born with a hole in his intestinal tract and later diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. This was a situation that caused Greg and Diane to pay a lot closer attention to God in their lives than ever before. Suddenly the music business and being on the road didn't make sense for Greg and his new family, so he went to work as a home repair carpenter as a means to provide for his household. Seven years later and with three of their four children diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, life was beautiful, if sometimes complicated, for the McDougal family. But when Jeffrey wound up with three occasions of pneumonia in a year's time, the doctors had even more serious things to say about his condition.

Instantly, Greg and Diane knew that they needed to put these special children into a clean air, allergen-free house: a specially-built house that will help to eliminate the extra dynamics that only worsen an already serious condition. A simple, heartfelt cry to God for help led Greg to return to his songwriter's bag and record a few of his songs onto a CD called 'The Work of a Carpenter'. The purpose is to sell as many of these CDs as possible on their web site www.ahouseformykids.com to raise the necessary funds to build this special house.

There is too much to tell here about how God has changed the McDougal's lives with this endeavor. There is also not enough room to tell of the countless people whom God has also touched through the songs, the story and this family. Greg says, 'I have nothing that I can boast about with all of this, it has been a God thing from the beginning!'. When you hear Greg sing now, it is with faith, passion and purpose. Work Day next two Saturdays - Upcoming Playday

We are having a Work Day the next two Saturdays to cleanup, repair, and install new lighting (Yeah, we are getting rid of those red-yellow lights) so that we will have our arena ready for Shows and other arena events restarting in March.

Our Arena will be reopening for Shows starting Saturday March 6 with the First Saturday Play Day. Registration starts at 5pm with the event starting at 6pm.

New Years Eve Watch Invitation from Bro. Kurt Van Doran

I wanted to once again invite everyone to the new years eve watch party Wednesday evening. Folks will probably show up between 7:00 and 8:00 pm. I’ll bring some firewood and have maybe 3 or 4 campfires for folks to gather around and gab. There was some conversation about cooking hot dogs on the grill but after considering logistics and other stuff we’re just asking that folks bring a dessert of one sort or another to offer. Also, if you’re bringing your kids maybe consider getting a bag of marshmellows at Walmart and bring some sticks so they can cook(or burn as is the case) on one of the fires. We’ll have hot chocolate and coffee at the concession stand. So bring your blankets, maybe some cards or other stuff and enjoy a simple, quiet evening with your brothers and sisters in Christ, and be a part of praying in the new year.

Fifth Sunday Service

This next Sunday is a Fifth Sunday, which means that our worship will be in music, with contributions by the band and musically talented members. After the Service dinner is served on the grounds with the Church contributing the meat and members bringing covered dishes. If you are visiting, there is plenty to eat without bringing a dish.

Fall Festival: Lots of Fun

Great News! Did you miss this past weeks Message? Do you want to hear it again?

Our soundman, Bogie, provided me with a Audio CD and I was able to find a way to get it onto our website. There is both a link on the website and this blog (lower left sidebar) to our Sermons. When you click on the link a new window will open with the application your PC is set to play MP3 files. If you are on dialup you might have to wait quite a while for the message to start. If you click on the message and hear nothing, you might well forget and then about 20 min later you will hear Brother Bob starting the message and you will look around for the source.

October 4, Playday

We had a great Playday this past Saturday night and look forward to the next Playday on Sat Nov 2. The photos show Colt running home after his barrel run, and Glen Hopkins and Son working the arena around the barrels by hand after the tractor ran out of diesel. Buck-a-Roo Rodeo

Mark your calendars for Oct 18. This event is for Cowboys and Cowgirls to age 14. Registration begins at 9am with Rodeo starting at 11am. There will be lots of Kid-Friendly events including:

Chicken Chase

Greased Pig

Wild Cow Milking (stick cow>

Goat Scramble

and much more ...

Buckles will be awarded for All Around in each age group, Boys and Girls. There will be free hot dogs!

First Rafter J Playday

Glenn Hopkins organized a great playday this past Saturday, Sept 6. We had a cool evening and a good crowd. Our next playday is scheduled for Oct 4. Signup begins at 5pm, Playday starts at 6pm. Please make plans to be there. We will be having a Playday on the first Saturday of each month (Except January) so mark your calendars!
